Jacob Lott Van Wicklen was the very first telephone subscriber in Richmond Hill in 1889 (13 years after the telephone was invented). Jacob was a
dealer in provisions, groceries, flour and feed. He was also the first Postmaster in Richmond Hill; a part of his country store was the Post Office. It
was located on Park Street (117th Street) and Jamaica Avenue in the triangle formed by Park St., Jamaica Avenue and Myrtle Ave. (source:
